歐內斯特·海明威(1899-1961),20世紀美國著名小說家,生於伊利諾伊州芝加哥市郊的橡樹園附近。他的作品風格獨具魅力,在世界範圍內產生了廣泛影響。1926年發表的《太陽照樣升起》是海明威獲得聲譽的第一部長篇小說,並成為“迷惘的一代”的代表作品。“一戰”給海明威留下了難以愈合的心靈創傷,為他創作舉世名作《永別了,武器》提供了素材。1952年,中篇小說《老人與海》出版,轟動文壇,並使他獲得了諾貝爾文學獎。
